February Break Art Camp

Art Camp is back for February School Vacation!

This camp is designed for students in grades 1 through 8. 

Each day students will learn an art concept, techniques, and create a work of art based on that subject.  There will be one major art project each day and one to two smaller projects.  Students will take their art home each day with the exception of projects that take longer (up to 24 hours) to dry. 

Daily Schedule:

• 9 am-9:15 am: Arrival
• 9:15 am - 10:30 am: 1st 1/2 of the 1st daily major art project
• 10:30 am -10:45 am: snack (provided by MPA)
• 10:45 am - 12:30 pm: 2nd 1/2 of the 1st daily major art project
• 12:30-1 pm: Lunch
• 1 pm -1:30 pm: Movement
• 1:30 pm - 2:30 pm: 2nd art project
• 2:30 pm - 3:00 pm: Self care crafting time
• 3 pm - 3:15 pm: Dismissal

• Monday, February 20: Children will explore different types of illustrations and come up with a poem, short story, or song and learn how to illustrate with paper, pencils, markers, watercolor, and more.  
• Tuesday, February 21: Children will use materials to make their own pour paint mixtures.  They will choose their canvas and create abstract art.  Children will also choose a mold and mix make epoxy resin.  Art work will be brought home the next day as they both take about 24 hours to dry.
• Wednesday, February 22: Children will learn about different African American visual artists and plan and create masterpieces inspired by them. 
• Thursday, February 23: Students will learn how instrumental music can inspire artist's styles.  They will use music to navigate how they want to create their own mandalas, dream catchers, and paintings.
• Friday, February 24: Students will be led in an instruction based acrylic art painting lesson.  They will learn how to safely use glue guns to adhere found objects, fabric, and other textures to the canvas.
